“PROJECT R.A.W.” a unifying symbol and campaign to raise public awareness and engage bystanders around ending domestic violence and sexual assault against women was launched in March 2015 by Mr. Nigeria 2014/15; Emmanuel Ikubese.
Ikubese made it known to all that the foundation is a non-profit organization is supported by some national and local groups, by individuals, some organizations, universities, and communities who are trying to increase visibility for domestic violence and sexual assault against women.
In his words; I got inspired to raise awareness on domestic abuse in my university days. I noticed that my friends will get hit by their boyfriends and they wouldn't still let go. Being part of the MTV drama series, 'Shuga' made me see the possibilities of doing same on my foundation platform. Shuga drama series was successful in tackling aids and with the Emmanuel Ikubese foundation; we are seeking to collaborate with other agencies.
Presently we are raising funds to have a shelter and a place to counsel and accommodate victims of domestic abuse.
Former Chairman Committee on Diaspora, Hon Abike Dabiri says she supports Emmanuel on this lofty project. She says, "Nigeria now has a law that protects victims of rape. The crime of rape now carries life imprisonment while gang rape carries 20 years imprisonment".
The organisers of Project R.A.W also conferred the tile of ‘Project R.A.W Ambassadors’ to some outstanding individuals like Mrs. Josephine Effah-Chukwuma of Project Alert and Juliet Ibrahim amongst others.
