Since the current Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo opened the floodgates of senior advocates as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in Lagos state, in 1999; it has been a succession of one senior advocate or the other in the same saddle.

Recall that the immediate past commissioner of the same portfolio, Deji Sasegbon is also a senior advocate; so when the present commissioner Adeniji Kazeem was appointed by Governor Ambode in 2015, many were wondering why the detour, but latest news has proved that the appointment of Kazeem is still in line with the tradition of appointing Senior Advocates as Justice Commissioner in the state, as Adeniji Kazeem was recently elevated to the elite class of lawyers with silk robes, called Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and this tradition, we fear, may continue in a long while. The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, LPPC, recently elevated Prince Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem and 30 senior lawyers to the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, among them, Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun. and Attorney General of Ondo States, Adekola Olawole. The legal body took the decision at the end of its 133rd plenary session in Abuja. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen will swear-in the new SANs during the 2018/2019 New Legal Year of the Supreme Court on September 24.
