Inimitable Africa’s number one rich man and Chairman, Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, is still his out-giving person any day.
In this same attitude, he has donated a whopping N50 million to victims of the protracted communal crisis that hit Ile-Ife, Osun State. The Kano-born billionaire industrialist and philanthropist, Dangote, made the donation last Monday, at the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi. The crisis had sparked off last March, between the Yoruba and Hausa residents of the city, claiming many lives. While many claimed that their shops were looted, others claimed that their houses were burnt, and appealed to the government to assist them. Dangote’s largesse of N50 million would be shared among the listed 220 victims of the uprising, as they would each receive a cheque commensurate with the losses suffered. HIM Ogunwusi, in his remarks, thanked Dangote for the gesture which he described as “encouraging”. He called for more cooperation between traditional rulers and the private sector, saying that such partnership would benefit the country.
